dc.description.abstract In Algerian universities, the COVID-19 epidemic provided a new way of studying. The term "online learning" refers to a relatively recent teaching and learning approach. As a result, the study's goal is to explore the transition in physical and virtual learning, and investigating the challenges during this period. To this effect, 30 first year students and 04 teachers from the English Department at Khemis-Miliana University were selected as the participants for this study. In addition, in order to answer the research questions which directed the present research; three research tools were used. These were: questionnaires for students, interviews with teachers, and a comparison of students’ grades. The findings of the study demonstrated that online learning during the pandemic had a detrimental impact on students' performance due to a variety of problems and variables. Finally, this research suggests some pedagogical implications and recommendations for future research fr_FR
